The Indonesian government is exploring opportunities for food export-import cooperation with Argentina. Deputy Minister of Agriculture Sudaryono announced that Indonesia recently hosted a visit from Argentina’s Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries, Agustin Tejeda Rodriguez, to follow up on collaboration efforts. During the meeting, Indonesia offered to export surplus chicken meat and processed chicken products to Argentina, addressing the country’s domestic oversupply. Sudaryono explained, “Since Indonesia currently has an oversupply of chicken meat and processed products, we proposed reciprocal exports of these products to Argentina.”
Meanwhile, Argentina expressed interest in exporting beef products, breeding cattle, and live cattle to Indonesia. However, Sudaryono noted that further discussions will consider challenges such as pricing and the significant geographic distance between the two countries, which poses logistical difficulties. He also emphasized the importance of halal certification for all food products, including meat, considering Indonesia’s majority Muslim population. Argentina’s deputy minister expressed confidence in the strong potential for cooperation, highlighting Argentina as one of the world’s largest beef exporters with annual exports of around one million tons. He added, “We are working to gain greater access to the Indonesian market to offer quality products at competitive prices.”
