The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) is committed to accelerating the development of Indonesia’s petrochemical industry by ensuring the availability of competent human resources to meet domestic market demands. Petrochemical products, which serve as key raw materials for sectors like plastics, textiles, synthetic rubber, cosmetics, cleaning agents, and pharmaceuticals, are considered critical in strengthening Indonesia’s manufacturing structure. Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita emphasized the strategic importance of building refineries to increase domestic production of nafta, a crucial feedstock for petrochemical processes, in line with efforts to reduce imports and enhance value-added investment and job creation.
To support this, Kemenperin, through its Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDMI), has developed vocational education initiatives such as the Petrochemical Industry Polytechnic in Banten. This institution recently renewed a partnership with Chandra Asri Group to enhance industrial workforce skills through curriculum development, internships, practical training, and expert teaching. The collaboration aims to align education with industry needs and boost national industrial competitiveness. Chandra Asri Group affirmed its support for accessible, industry-oriented education in its operational areas, while the Polytechnic emphasized the importance of hands-on learning, modern facilities, and industry collaboration as part of the government’s effort to create job-ready, skilled graduates for the petrochemical sector.
