On 8 May 2025, the Minister of Creative Economy, Teuku Riefky Harsya, met with the French Ambassador to Indonesia, Fabien Penone, in Jakarta. The meeting discussed the potential for collaboration in the creative economy sector, aiming to stimulate growth and promote the creative economy as the new engine of growth for Indonesia. The meeting formed part of the preparations for the visit of French President Emmanuel Macron this May. There is significant potential for Indonesia and France to collaborate, including capacity-building for creative talents in the film, animation and gaming sectors. Teuku also explained the plan to boost the visibility of Indonesian creative products on the global market through the country's gastrodiplomacy/culinary strategy. This strategy involves the organisation of collaborative film festivals and culinary festivals, as well as the joint production and development of Intellectual Property in the gaming subsector.
The Minister of Creative Economy stated that France is the ideal partner for Indonesia in developing its creative industry, particularly in the creation of high-value creative products and the establishment of mutually beneficial business cooperation for both countries. In his statement, Ambassador Penone highlighted Indonesia's position as a pivotal partner for France in fostering the development of the creative economy in Southeast Asia. Both parties will take concrete steps in the Memorandum of Understanding. The collaboration between Indonesia and France is anticipated to stimulate the creative economy and consolidate cultural and political ties between the two nations, resulting in new prospects and enhancing global recognition of Indonesia's cultural and creative richness.
