From a simple leather workshop in Garut, West Java, Move Leather has grown into one of the local UMKM that has now penetrated international markets such as Singapore, Africa, and Australia. This business was pioneered by the couple H. Deni Hermawan and Hj. Pupu Maspupah since 2000. Move Leather products are famous for the quality of the cow and lamb leather materials used. They produce various items such as jackets, bags, wallets, belts, shoes, sandals, and other leather accessories with functional designs and precise stitching. Having been in a slump during the Covid-19 era, now a glimmer of hope has emerged when Move Leather joined as a fostered partner of PT Pertamina (Persero) and received funding of IDR 100 million. The funds were used to purchase leather materials and maintain the sustainability of the remaining small production.
Move Leather has actively participated in the Pertamina UMK Academy for three consecutive years. In this program, they take Go Modern, Go Digital, and Go Global classes, both online and through direct training in Bandung and Garut. This mentoring opens up new horizons in managing a more professional and global market-oriented business. A big step was taken when Move Leather was invited to attend the 2022 Trade Expo Indonesia (TEI) with Pertamina. Initially, Deni only brought a few products because he was hesitant. However, all the products he brought were sold out. He even had to restock three times during the exhibition. Now, Move Leather products have been marketed widely to various regions in Indonesia such as Jabodetabek, Java Island, Kalimantan, and Papua. Not only that, they also routinely export to Singapore, Africa, and Australia. Area Manager for Communication, Relations & CSR Pertamina Patra Niaga West Java Region, Eko Kristiawan, emphasized that Pertamina continues to encourage the empowerment of MSMEs to move up a class. "The UMK Academy program is our real contribution to realizing modern, digital, and competitive MSMEs," he explained.
