Ministry of Industry Boosts Electronics Industry Utilization, Panasonic Indonesia Becomes Export Hub to 80 Countries

In response to reports of layoffs at Panasonic Holdings, Ministry of Industry spokesperson Febri Hendri Antoni Arief clarified that the layoffs did not occur in Indonesia. He emphasized that Indonesia remains a key production base for Panasonic in Southeast Asia, with its local factory serving as an export hub to over 80 countries—a testament to the strength of the nation’s electronics industry. While electronic industry utilization has declined to 50.64% in Q1 2025 from 75.6% pre-pandemic, this reflects the need for continuous adaptation and transformation to stay competitive amid intensifying global competition.

Febri also highlighted the government’s efforts to boost industrial utilization through domestic market protection, retention of existing investments, and attraction of new ones. Indonesia’s large domestic market is a strategic asset, supported by policies like the Domestic Component Level (TKDN) to strengthen local industry. As Southeast Asia drives global economic growth, the government is prioritizing industrial stability and competitiveness. The Ministry continues to promote productivity through incentives, workforce training, and the development of a high-tech manufacturing ecosystem. Febri concluded with confidence that the right policies and industry-government synergy will keep Indonesia’s electronics sector growing and contributing to the national economy.
