The Bontang City Government is preparing to transform Bontang Lestari into a new industrial and services hub, with 1,000 hectares of land allocated to support this initiative. Vice Mayor Agus Haris announced that the development is expected to attract both local and foreign investors and generate significant employment opportunities.
Currently, parts of northern and southern Bontang have already been designated as industrial zones. The expansion into Bontang Lestari is aimed at accelerating economic growth and infrastructure development. Agus expressed hopes that the industrial zone will also spur the construction of essential facilities such as a dedicated port, cold storage units, and seafood processing plants—leveraging Bontang's vast marine potential, which is still under review to assess its viability for large-scale fish processing operations.
