Regent of Penajam Paser Utara (PPU), Mudyat Noor, is actively seeking international partnerships by welcoming a delegation from the People's Republic of China and Indonesia’s Freight Forwarders Council (DEPALINDO) in Jakarta on May 7, 2025. The meeting focused on attracting foreign investment, particularly in the agricultural sector. PPU showcased its competitive edge—vast available land, a supportive agrarian climate, and a firm government commitment to developing modern, investment-driven agriculture. During the forum, Mudyat emphasized that PPU is not only open to receiving capital and technology, but is also committed to empowering local farmers. “We’re looking for partners who want to grow with our people, not just invest,” he stated.
In response, Teng Ling Jian, Director of the Hangzhou Qiantang Center for Contemporary Internationalization Studies (QT-CCIS), expressed interest in exploring collaboration. He highlighted soil conditions, farmer skills, and market access as key factors—but noted that with proper technology, land quality could be adapted. “The key lies in commitment and the readiness of local human resources. We’re prepared to support with research and technology transfer,” Teng affirmed. The Chinese delegation also invited the PPU government to visit Qiantang to witness modern agricultural practices firsthand. Facilitated by DEPALINDO, this initiative aims to enhance logistics infrastructure and accelerate regional investment. The meeting concluded with a mutual agreement to maintain close communication as a foundation for long-term cooperation in building a sustainable agriculture-driven economy in PPU.
