Indonesia strengthens its commitment and position as a major player in the global wood product trade. The commitment was emphasized in the Business Forum on The Improvement of Indonesian Forest Product Exports held at the Indonesian Pavilion, World Expo 2025 Osaka, Japan. In the agenda, Indonesia said it would strengthen wood product exports through the wood legality verification system (SVLK). The General Chairperson of the Indonesian Wood Panel Association (Apkindo), Bambang Soepijanto, stated that SVLK guarantees the legality and sustainability of Indonesian wood products, providing a competitive advantage in the global market, including Japan. "This forum is an important event to introduce the great potential of Indonesian wood products, especially wood panels and furniture, which continue to show a positive trend in exports," said Bambang in his statement, Sunday (11/5/2025).
For information, in 2024 Indonesia was recorded as exporting wood products worth USD 12.73 billion to a number of major countries such as the United States (US), Japan, South Korea, China, and Malaysia. In addition to discussing trade cooperation opportunities, this forum also discussed the latest developments in the Indonesian wood panel and furniture industry. In the same statement, Didik Darmanto as Director of the Indonesian Pavilion, Didik Darmanto, added that this event serves as a means to bring together Indonesian and Japanese business actors to explore more concrete collaboration opportunities in the future. "Anticipating the trend of increasing consumer awareness of product sustainability and legality, Indonesia is optimistic that the Japanese market will continue to be the main export destination for Indonesian wood products," he explained. This forum is expected to pave the way for stronger synergy between the forestry industries of the two countries, increase supply chain capacity, and encourage the penetration of processed wood products and Indonesian furniture in the global market, especially Japan.
