Strengthening Global Cooperation, Head of BPOM Signs MoU with United States Pharmacopeia

The Indonesian Food and Drug Authority (BPOM) is strengthening its international collaboration in the pharmaceutical sector through active participation in the United States Pharmacopeia Convention 2025, held in Maryland, USA. Attended by over 500 global pharmaceutical leaders, the forum highlighted Indonesia’s commitment to high-quality medicine standards. BPOM Chief Taruna Ikrar delivered a keynote speech, outlining Indonesia's achievements and challenges in ensuring access to quality medicines, and exploring collaborative opportunities with USP, a leading scientific organization that sets quality standards for medicines and supplements worldwide. During the event, BPOM also signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with USP, marking a major step in advancing long-term technical cooperation.

The MoU paves the way for joint research, new testing methods, expert panels, and regulatory knowledge sharing between the two institutions. BPOM aims to strengthen its regulatory framework and ensure that medicines and processed foods in Indonesia meet global standards. In addition, Indonesia voiced strong support for USP’s key resolutions on access to biological medicines and pharmaceutical supply chain resilience. Through this partnership, BPOM seeks not only to adopt cutting-edge testing technologies but also to reinforce its role in the global regulatory community—ultimately ensuring better public health outcomes and access to high-quality, safe, and competitive pharmaceutical products for the Indonesian people.
