The Rejang Lebong Regency Government in Bengkulu is launching a new strategy to bring its local coffee to the international market. One of the key steps involves reactivating the Regional Public Company (Perumda) to serve as the main hub for managing and exporting Rejang Lebong coffee. Regent HM Fikri, SE, M.AP, explained that Perumda has not been running optimally, but will now be positioned as a coffee shelter to better coordinate production and distribution, making the local coffee more organized and competitive both nationally and globally.
The local government plans to gather all coffee stakeholders in the near future to align their vision and create a joint roadmap for regional coffee industry development. The initiative has received support from the Bengkulu Provincial Government, particularly through plans to build an export port that will ease commodity distribution, including coffee. With direct exports, Perumda could generate new and sustainable local revenue (PAD). Rejang Lebong currently produces around 150,000 tons of coffee annually, though this figure will be verified for accuracy. Seeing coffee as a promising new economic driver, the government is committed to reviving Perumda and promoting sustainable industrialization and export of the region’s flagship commodity.
