Indonesia and the European Union (EU) are in the final stages of concluding a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), which is targeted for completion in the first half (H1) of 2025, according to Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, on Tuesday (May 6). A virtual meeting between Airlangga and European Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security, Maros Sefcovic, was held on Monday (May 5) as a follow-up to earlier discussions. “We agreed to continue working together to seize the current momentum while upholding the rule of law,” said Airlangga in a statement.
Sefcofic welcomed the recent progress, describing it as a positive signal to strengthen trade cooperation. Both parties committed to maintaining intensive communication and resolving remaining technical issues to solidify the foundation for economic collaboration in the face of global challenges. Since 2016, a total of 19 negotiation rounds have been conducted, covering trade in goods and services, investment, and regulatory alignment.
