The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that Central Java's economy grew by 4.96% year-on-year (YoY) in the first quarter of 2025, surpassing the national growth rate of 4.87%. This growth was mainly supported by the agriculture, forestry, and fisheries sector, which recorded a YoY increase of 15.24%. On a quarterly basis (Q to Q), Central Java's economy grew by 1.80% compared to Q4 2024, while the national economy contracted by -0.98%.
Acting Head of BPS Central Java, Endang Tri Wahyuningsih, highlighted the key role of agriculture, which also saw a strong Q to Q growth of 22.75%, driven by harvests of crops such as corn and rice. She emphasized the importance of further strengthening this sector to enhance its contribution in the coming quarters. Central Java ranked second nationally in Q to Q growth, just behind North Maluku at 2.75%.
