Vice Governor of Southeast Sulawesi (Sultra), Ir Hugua, has announced a strategic plan to build an international port aimed at enhancing the region’s export-import activities. Speaking at the inauguration of the local chapter of the Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association (HIPMI), Hugua emphasized that Sultra's world-class natural and economic potential justifies the ambition to establish global-standard infrastructure such as an international port and airport. These developments are expected to open broader access to international markets for local products, boosting national revenue and improving regional prosperity.
To realize this vision, Hugua stressed the need for strong collaboration between local government and business stakeholders. The regional government is aligning its development goals with Bappenas (Indonesia’s National Development Planning Agency) to ensure integration with national strategies. With proper infrastructure and investment, Sultra is poised to attract investors, create jobs, and increase local income. Hugua also highlighted the importance of legal certainty, security, and public order to build a conducive investment climate. Confident in Sultra’s potential, he believes the province can become a key player in international trade, driving economic growth both regionally and nationally.
