Seven Electric Vehicle Manufacturers to Build Factories in Indonesia, Investment Valued at IDR 15.4 Trillion

Investment Minister and Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), Rosan Roeslani, revealed that out of the seven electric vehicle manufacturers interested in Indonesia, several have already committed and begun constructing their factories. These manufacturers include BYD, Citroën, Aion, Gili, Maxus, Volkswagen, and VinFast. The total investment for these electric vehicle factories reaches IDR 15.4 trillion, with a combined production capacity of up to 281,000 units per year. “Seven EV manufacturers have already committed to relocating their investments and have started construction with a total value of IDR 15.4 trillion,” Rosan stated during an event in the SCBD area of Jakarta on Tuesday, May 6, 2025.

Rosan explained that this growing interest is driven by the steadily rising sales of electric vehicles in Indonesia, which saw a 151% increase in 2024. He emphasized that with such momentum, it is only appropriate for Indonesia to develop its own domestic EV manufacturing industry and create a sustainable end-to-end electric vehicle ecosystem. “This growth is very significant, and we must strengthen our ecosystem because we don't want to be just a market,” he said. He also highlighted that Indonesia's commitment to achieving net-zero emissions by 2060, along with its vast natural resources like nickel and bauxite for EV batteries, plays a crucial role in attracting foreign investment into the country’s electric vehicle sector.
