From 25-27 April 2025, the Specialty Coffee Expo (SCE) 2025 exhibition was held in Texas, United States. This year, SCE welcomed over 649 participants from various countries and attracted more than 17,000 visitors from 85 countries. Indonesia's participation in SCE 2025 was made possible through the collaboration of the Trade Attaché of the Indonesian Embassy in Washington D.C., the Agriculture Attaché in Washington D.C., the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Houston, the Specialty Coffee Association of Indonesia (SCAI), Bank Indonesia, Pertamina, Bank Negara Indonesia, and Bank Rakyat Indonesia. Specialty coffee from various regions in Indonesia, including West Java, Sumatra, Toraja, Central Java, Gayo, and Toba, has recorded a potential transaction of USD 30 million, equivalent to IDR 498 billion. Specialty coffee is the highest grade of coffee, produced to exacting standards and with a unique processing method. It is highly traceable back to the end consumer, which adds a romantic quality to the coffee-drinking experience.
Indonesia's participation in SCE 2025 is an opportunity to showcase the quality of coffee and associated products to the US market. In response to both US market demands and global challenges, Indonesian products are distinguished by their emphasis on traceability and sustainability. At the Indonesian Pavilion, cupping sessions were held to encourage partnership and trade with potential buyers and stakeholders. Several participants received purchase orders, signed MoUs, and received potential buyers from the UAE, Korea, Taiwan, and Canada. For the first time at SCE, Indonesia screened a documentary film titled 'Legacy of Java' by Budi Kurniawan. At the same time, the World Coffee Roasting Championship was held, with Indonesia represented by Wandie Wijaya from Sabar Menanti Coffee Roaster, Tanahlaut, South Kalimantan.
