PT Semen Indonesia is accelerating the jetty and production facility project at its Tuban Plant in East Java, as a key step in maximising opportunities in the export market. The joint project between SIG, through its subsidiary PT Solusi Bangun Indonesia Tbk, and Taiheiyo Cement Corporation aims to increase export capacity, especially of speciality type cement, to international markets, particularly the United States. The project will see export capacity increase to 1 million tonnes of cement per year. It is anticipated that this will be a significant milestone in strengthening distribution capacity and contributing to the competitiveness of the export market, as well as strengthening the company's global distribution network. Thus, ensuring resilience in a highly competitive and oversupplied domestic market. Furthermore, this strategic business expansion represents a significant opportunity for SIG to demonstrate its competitive capabilities in the global cement industry.
In Q1 of 2025, the domestic cement industry saw a decline in both the bagged (retail) and bulk cement segments. Consequently, there was a decline in sales volume and revenue. However, SIG recorded an increase in regional sales of 13.8% year-on-year (yoy). SIG's strategy of leveraging opportunities in the regional market proved successful, contributing to sales of 2.37 million tonnes of cement, marking a 13.8% year-on-year increase despite intense competition in the retail sector.
