The Ministry of Industry continues to encourage small and medium industry (IKM) players to expand their markets, including to the international arena, in addition to maximizing the domestic market. The IKM sector is increasingly being encouraged to be able to penetrate and expand the export market, even amidst the dynamics of the global economy. In addition to providing IKM access to the international market through various exhibition facilitation programs as well as mentoring and business matching, the Ministry of Industry is also actively organizing various educational activities such as talk shows on market expansion. One of them is the Global Furniture Market 2025 Talkshow with the theme "Strategic Issues and New Market Potential, Middle East Edition" which was held online (29/4). The talk show, which is intended for IKM furniture players, aims to increase the number of furniture products made by Indonesian craftsmen that are able to compete in the global market.
The Director General of Small, Medium, and Miscellaneous Industries (IKMA) of the Ministry of Industry, Reni Yanita, said that the talk show provided important information for SMEs, especially in the furniture sector, to be more prepared in anticipating the world economic situation and dynamics. The talk show also presented market opportunities in non- traditional importing countries, especially the Middle East, which are considered to have great potential for Indonesian furniture products. The Ministry of Industry as the initiator is collaborating with the Ministry of Trade and the Indonesian Furniture and Craft Industry Association (ASMINDO). The Director General of IKMA said that the market share of the national furniture industry has the potential to continue to be developed. Based on BPS data, the export value of the furniture industry in the January - December 2024 period reached USD 1.91 billion, an increase of 3.24%. Data said that the Middle East region has a fairly high demand for furniture products of USD 4.71 billion in 2024 and Indonesian furniture products have only reached USD 29.1 million of that (0.61%).
