To strengthen Riau’s tourism sector, Member of Parliament Hendry Munief has once again launched tourism training programs aimed at empowering local tourism activists to better promote regional destinations and events. Held in Pekanbaru on May 2–3, this marks the fourth and fifth training sessions conducted by Indonesia’s Ministry of Tourism in Riau for 2025, focusing on “Marketing Strategy and Regional Event Promotion.” The sessions were initiated through Hendry’s collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, reflecting his active role in advancing tourism capacity building. Reza Fahlevi, the Ministry’s Assistant Deputy for Regional Events, highlighted the training’s broader goal: to stimulate local economies by developing consistent tourism events—ranging from local to international levels—that boost sectors like hospitality, transportation, MSMEs, and culinary services.
Hendry emphasized that tourism is a key pillar in achieving the national target of 8% economic growth, as set by President Prabowo. He advocated for collaboration between DPR Commission VII’s partners—including tourism, industry, MSMEs, and media sectors—to drive national tourism forward. He also called on Riau residents to become tourism ambassadors by leveraging social media to showcase local attractions and culture. The ongoing training sessions, supported by Hendry’s coordination with the Ministry of Tourism, are intended to lay the groundwork for sustainable tourism development in Riau. Additional classes are planned in Duri and Dumai in the coming weeks.
