Minister Trenggono Eyes Seaweed and Fishery Exports from North Gorontalo

Indonesia’s Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, has expressed strong interest in developing seaweed cultivation and boosting fishery exports in North Gorontalo. During his working visit to the Nusantara Fisheries Port (PPN) in Kwandang on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, accompanied by Governor Gusnar Ismail and Fisheries Head Sila Botutihe, Minister Trenggono emphasized seaweed as a key strategic commodity with industrial potential. He stated that North Gorontalo holds significant promise as a supplier of raw materials for industries such as pharmaceuticals, fertilizers, and food.
In addition to focusing on seaweed, Trenggono affirmed the central government's commitment to improving local fisheries infrastructure. Revitalizing the port is seen as critical to supporting fishermen's activities and enabling direct exports from the region. He projected that with adequate infrastructure and increased production, exports could begin within the next two to three years. The minister also raised the possibility of attracting investors to further develop the marine and fisheries sector, underscoring the importance of continued collaboration between central and regional governments to drive local economic growth.
