Trump Tariff Negotiations, Airlangga Reveals Indonesian Company Plans to Invest USD 2 Billion in the US

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, revealed that Indonesian company Indorama plans to invest USD 2 billion in Louisiana, United States, to develop a blue ammonia project. This investment was one of the key updates he reported to President Prabowo Subianto as part of the ongoing tariff negotiation discussions with U.S. President Donald Trump. Indorama, a diversified company known for producing soda bottles and other products, has expanded globally from its base in Purwakarta, Indonesia.

Airlangga also noted that official letters sent by Indonesia on April 7 and 9, 2025, were well received by the U.S., as they addressed both tariff and non-tariff issues comprehensively, along with Indonesia's strategy to balance trade. Highlighting a fair approach, he emphasized that while the U.S. has a trade surplus of around USD 19 billion, Indonesia is offering purchases exceeding USD 19.5 billion, including large-scale projects. The U.S. Trade Representative has shown commitment to continued talks, and Indonesia has signed a non-disclosure agreement. Airlangga added that the U.S. views Indonesia as geopolitically significant, opening doors for closer collaboration in strategic sectors.
