Indonesia Gears Up to Become a Global Halal Industry Hub

Indonesia is strengthening its move to become a global center for the halal industry through the launch of the Halal Indonesia International Industry Expo (Halal Indo) 2025, set to take place from September 25–28, 2025, at ICE BSD City, Tangerang. Deputy Minister of Industry Faisol Riza stated that, as the country with the world’s largest Muslim population, Indonesia holds immense potential in the global halal ecosystem. Following the success of Halal Indo 2024, which recorded transactions exceeding IDR 1.3 billion, this year’s exhibition—carrying the theme “Where Halal Meets the World”—is targeting 15,000 visitors from more than 20 countries, bringing together stakeholders from producers to investors.

The halal industry’s contribution to Indonesia’s economic growth is increasingly significant, with halal product exports reaching USD 64.11 billion in 2024. Indonesia currently ranks third in the Global Islamic Economy Indicator, behind Malaysia and Saudi Arabia. To boost competitiveness, the Ministry of Industry continues to develop halal infrastructure, expand certification, enhance literacy, and push for international market expansion. Faisol emphasized that stakeholders should view the mandatory halal certification transition period until 2026 as an opportunity rather than a burden. Through Halal Indo 2025, Indonesia aims to become a major force in the global halal value chain while elevating the international competitiveness of its halal products.
