Bangka Belitung has made significant strides in the international seafood market. In the first quarter of 2025 alone, the region exported 3,079 tons of fishery products worth IDR 125 billion across 614 shipments. Major contributors include fish species such as manyung, sembilang, flatfish, squid, and black pomfret, with Belitung emerging as a key producer. Their products have successfully penetrated markets in Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, and Vietnam, with future expansions targeting China. Dedy Arief Hendriyanto, Head of BPPMHKP Bangka Belitung, highlighted the region’s strong potential, especially with commodities like vaname shrimp, although some processing and logistics challenges remain. BPPMHKP continues to guarantee product quality through stringent certifications and has innovated its services through digital platforms for easier public access.
According to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) Bangka Belitung, the province’s seafood exports have consistently grown since 2016, reaching a notable value of USD 30.59 million in 2024—a 20.64% increase from the previous year. This sector now contributes 1.8% to the province's total exports, more than doubling its share from 2016. In the context of Babel’s relatively slow economic growth of 0.77% in 2024, the steady rise in fishery exports offers a vital boost. To maintain momentum, efforts are underway to enhance productivity through better equipment, technology, and access to capital, ensuring that Bangka Belitung’s marine resources continue driving regional and national economic development.
