The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) continues to boost Indonesia's healthcare industry, recognizing its strategic role under the Making Indonesia 4.0 roadmap. According to Setia Diarta, Director General of ILMATE, the domestic medical device sector has shown remarkable growth, with 393 registered manufacturers producing a wide range of products. In 2024, transactions for locally made medical devices surged by 48% on the e-catalog platform, while exports exceeded USD 273 million — a significant achievement since 2019. To reinforce the sector, Kemenperin launched the Medical Device Raw Material Hub to bridge local raw material needs with domestic producers, ensuring a stronger, more competitive ecosystem.
Further highlighting progress, Solehan, Director of Agricultural Machinery and Equipment Industries, praised companies like GE Healthcare for producing complex devices like ultrasound machines domestically. He emphasized the importance of developing products from the design stage, integrating disciplines like electronics, medicine, and precision engineering. Kemenperin also promotes the use of digital manufacturing technologies to improve quality and efficiency, encouraging stronger partnerships with research institutions. Despite challenges such as sourcing medical-grade materials and scaling up production, the government remains committed to fostering innovation, expanding markets, and providing regulatory support. Ultimately, building a resilient healthcare industry is seen not only as an industrial effort but as a critical step towards national self-reliance and ensuring the well-being of all Indonesians.
