On 23 April 2025, Makassar City explored potential areas of cooperation with the Netherlands through a meeting between the Mayor of Makassar, South Sulawesi, Munafri Arifuddin, and the Deputy Head of Mission of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Indonesia, Adriaan Palm. Makassar City has many advantages, with potential for cooperation in development infrastructure, transportation, the economy, maritime industry and inclusive, safe and sustainable development programs. Similar to other major city in Indonesia, Makassar City has various supporting infrastructures and continues to open opportunities for cooperation, both from within and outside the country. Notably, the presence of Makassar New Port (MNP) is poised to stimulate heightened export activities and enhance the national logistics system, encompassing both domestic and international connectivity, thereby augmenting economic production. The Deputy Head of Mission of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Indonesia, Adriaan Palm, addressed potential collaborative opportunities, with a particular focus on economic cooperation. Makassar possesses significant potential for collaboration, and the Netherlands is eager for business to thrive.
