Creative Economy Contributes IDR 1,500 Trillion in Added Value to Indonesia's GDP

Minister of Creative Economy/Head of the Creative Economy Agency (MenEkraf/KaBekraf) Teuku Riefky Harsya presented figures showing the significant growth of Indonesia's creative economy sector over the last 11 years. The creative economy sector has doubled its contribution to GDP, and there has been a substantial increase in the number of workers, surging by 89% between 2013 and 2024, from 14 million to 26.5 million. By the end of 2024, the export value of creative products reached USD 25 billion, marking a substantial increase of 67% from the 2013 figure of USD 15 billion. Similarly, the value added in 2024 reached IDR 1,500 trillion, representing a significant growth of 119% compared to IDR 700 trillion in 2013. During the next five years, the target set by Bappenas is for export growth to be 6%, for the labour force to reach 27.6 million people, and for investment growth to be between 7-8%. The government's strategic objectives for the creative economy sector include the potential for it to contribute up to 8% of GDP and to become the primary driver of national exports and investment. To ensure the targeted application of this funding in sectors such as animation, games, applications, fashion and more, communication with the ecosystem through associations is vital.

This goal requires a collective commitment to transform the creative economy into a catalyst for national economic growth. The provision of support for funding schemes, with a particular emphasis on digital-based initiatives, is of paramount importance when it comes to fostering innovation and the development of creative economy subsectors in Indonesia. The funding innovation is still under development and is expected to be realised soon. The target sectors of animation, film, games, fashion and others that will receive support from this additional funding will be subject to joint curation. The government is in continuous dialogue with key stakeholders within the creative economy ecosystem via various associations. This approach ensures the funding scheme is designed with maximum relevance, addressing the specific needs of creative economy players in Indonesia.
