Operating in December, Patimban Port Becomes a Mainstay to Spur the Economy

Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi targets Patimban Port, Subang, West Java to operate in December. He also hopes that this port can trigger economic effects such as Indonesia's automotive exports. Currently, the terminal with a wharf covering an area of 25 hectares and can accommodate 218 thousand Completely Built Up (CBU) cars. "The hope is that December will be used for the first time for car terminals, in exporting and importing cars throughout Indonesia," said the Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi in the Ministry of Transportation's Webinar Monday (16/11).

Patimban Port will be an alternative logistics flow for Tanjung Priok Port. Therefore, the construction of phase I and II of the port will be continued with a 66 hectare container terminal. "The main goal is to advance export and import, not only for the Central Java and West Java regions, but throughout Indonesia. In the future there will be training for residents around Patimban, so that they can get a better impact from this development, "said Budi. On a separate occasion, West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil said the presence of this port would be one of the attractors for investment in West Java. Some of the other supporting infrastructure for West Java is the Jakarta-Bandung Fast Train, and the Cileunyi-Sumedang-Dawuan (Cisumdawu) Toll Road. He also believes that the West Java region, especially the Rebana Metropolitan area, will develop rapidly in investment matters. The area with a population of 9.28 million people consists of the districts of Sumedang, Majalengka, Cirebon, Subang, Indramayu, and Kuningan, as well as the City of Cirebon. Therefore he asked the regional governments in the region to prepare qualified human resources. Some examples are the establishment of aero-based vocational high school (SMK) in Majalengka, maritime in Subang, and petrochemical in Indramayu. "So let's work together to make Rebana Metropolitan the best area for urban development in Indonesia," said Ridwan West Java Investment Summit (WJIS) 2020, Monday (16/11) quoted from Antara.

Meanwhile, Dean of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Padjadjaran University, Yudi Nurul Ikhsan, hopes that this project can contribute to growing the economy after the pandemic. Moreover, experts have predicted that 60% of economic activity will shift to Asia Pacific. Therefore, he considered the presence of ports in Indonesia to be part of managing their resources. "Our economic condition is also considered strategic from a geopolitical and social perspective," said Yudi. Patimban development will be completed in its entirety in 2027. The target is that industries in the West and Central Java regions will continue to develop, as well as become distribution channels throughout Indonesia. In the future, this step can make the economy in the region develop, so that nationally it can also provide export and import alternatives.
