Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Andi Amran Sulaiman has prepared 10 thousand superior soybean seeds to increase national production of the commodity in order to support food security and domestic industrial needs. "We will start the trial this year, if it is successful we will continue," said Minister of Agriculture Amran, when met on the sidelines of the National Coordination Meeting with 37,000 Agricultural Extension Workers online and offline in Jakarta. The Minister of Agriculture conveyed this when confirmed regarding news about tempeh entrepreneurs getting around the impact of the increase in the price of imported soybeans from the United States (US) by reducing the size of tempeh.
In response to this, the Minister of Agriculture admitted that he would increase domestic soybean production by using 10,000 superior seeds that can produce a minimum productivity of three tons per hectare. Amran emphasized that the project would be closely monitored with a new system from the Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB) and the use of superior seeds to accelerate the increase in national soybean commodity production. He hopes that the soybean development program will become a mass movement if the harvest of the 10 thousand seeds shows success, so that dependence on soybean imports can be reduced gradually. Meanwhile, based on data from the National Food Agency Price Panel reported in Jakarta, Sunday (27/4) morning, the average price of imported dry soybeans nationally at the consumer level reached IDR 10,773 per kilogram as of April 26th, 2026.
