Garut Targets Potato Production of 171,825 Tons in 2025

The Agriculture Service (Dispertan) of Garut Regency, West Java, continues to develop potato vegetable land in several sub-districts to achieve the target of potato productivity of 171,825 tons in 2025 by maximizing the utilization of the commodity land in several areas. "The target of potato production in 2025 is 171,825 tons, optimistically it will be achieved considering the support of the program," said Head of Food Crops, Horticulture and Plantation Infrastructure Division of the Garut Regency Agriculture Service, Rahmat Jatnika in Garut. He said that Garut Regency has one of the superior commodities, namely potatoes, which have continued to be developed on 7,000 hectares of land spread across several sub-districts, such as the fairly large ones in Cikajang, Cisurupan, Pasirwangi, and Sukaresmi Sub-districts.
He expressed optimism that he could achieve the target of potato production considering that the 2024 potato production was recorded as abundant and quite high with a production of 194,438 tons.

He said that the development of potato commodities in Garut currently has a lot of program support from both the central government and a number of institutions. The potato development program that is already running in Garut, he said, is the Integrated Corporation Agricultural Resources Empowerment (ICARE) on 1,000 hectares of land.Furthermore, he said, there is an upland program that is currently developing potatoes in the highlands for two years until 2026 on 480 hectares of  land in the Cikajang District area. So far, he said, potato production from Garut has not only been able to meet the local market in Garut, but also supplies 60% of the needs of West Java Province.
