Aceh Has the Potential to Become a Hub for Halal Agricultural Industry

Aceh possesses immense potential in agriculture and fisheries that remains largely untapped, presenting a significant opportunity to attract both domestic and international investors. Dr. Surna Lastri, a lecturer at the University of Muhammadiyah Aceh, highlighted that the halal agricultural sector is particularly promising. Organic, herbal, and halal-certified processed products could become key economic drivers for Aceh, aligned with the region’s cultural values. This unique blend of local philosophy and high-quality, export-ready products could help Aceh stand out in the global market.
However, Dr. Lastri pointed out that infrastructure challenges remain a barrier to attracting investment. Limited accessibility to some production areas hampers supply chain efficiency, despite well-developed facilities in major cities. To address this, integrating upstream and downstream sectors in the supply chain is essential, not only to meet local demand but also to sustainably increase export value. With focused efforts, Aceh could establish itself as a leading hub for halal agricultural and fisheries industries, both nationally and internationally.
