Medical Equipment Exports in 2024 Surpass USD 273 Million, Classified as High Demand

The Ministry of Industry has identified the medical equipment sector as a priority area for development under the Making Indonesia 4.0 roadmap, recognizing its strong potential to drive national economic growth. According to Setia Diarta, Director General of ILMATE, medical devices are in the high-demand category, making it essential to optimize this momentum to achieve greater self-sufficiency. Currently, 393 registered companies are producing a wide range of products, from hospital beds and syringes to ventilators. Domestic transactions through the national e-Catalog have risen to 48% in 2024, and medical equipment exports have surpassed USD 273 million, reflecting steady growth since 2019.

To strengthen the ecosystem, the ministry has launched initiatives like the Medical Equipment Raw Material Hub, aiming to bridge domestic supply needs with local manufacturers. Special focus is placed on complex products like ultrasound (USG) machines, which require multidisciplinary collaboration across electronics, machinery, medicine, and software development. The Ministry is also pushing for stronger local component industries, digital manufacturing adoption, and closer partnerships with research and academia. Despite challenges such as limited medical-grade raw materials and the need for scaling up production, regulatory support and incentives are seen as key to expanding domestic and export markets.
