The craft industry, a key subsector of Indonesia’s creative economy, contributed Rp102.44 trillion in value added during the first half of 2024, accounting for 13.6% of the sector's total. The industry is projected to grow at a 7.2% CAGR from 2020 to 2026. To support this growth, the Ministry of Industry and the National Craft Council (Dekranas) are actively engaging with local artisans through initiatives like technical training to diversify beadcraft products. The training, held in Balikpapan, Kalimantan Timur, helps artisans enhance their skills, creativity, and market appeal, focusing on innovation and product diversification.
With the craft sector being labor-intensive, it plays a vital role in economic inclusion, empowering communities across Indonesia. Dekranas and the Ministry of Industry continue to support artisans through workshops, exhibitions, and competitions. By diversifying products and embracing global market trends, such as branding and storytelling, traditional crafts like beadwork have the potential to attract international buyers. These efforts not only preserve Indonesia’s cultural heritage but also create new opportunities for local economic development.
