Cirebon Catfish Commodities Successfully Enter Export Market

The Department of Food Security and Fisheries (DKPP) of Cirebon Regency, West Java, announced that catfish commodities from the region successfully entered the export market in 2024, with a total shipment of approximately 23 tons. "The catfish export by the Kersa Mulya Bakti group in 2024 reached 23 tons or 23,048.3 kg to several destination countries," said Erus Rusmana, Head of DKPP Cirebon Regency, on Wednesday. This achievement highlights the significant potential of the aquaculture sector in Cirebon, capable of meeting international quality standards and competing in the global market. Export details include shipments to South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and others, demonstrating high demand from international markets.

In addition to catfish, Cirebon has also exported various other fisheries commodities, such as crabs, processed shrimp and squid, salted fish, pelagic and demersal fish, octopus, and freshwater fish products. To support the growth of exports, the local government has implemented strategic programs, including technical assistance for breeders, training in Good Aquaculture Practices (GAqP), and facilitating business permits. They also provide certification support, such as HACCP and SSOP, to ensure products meet international standards. The government has invested in infrastructure like fish auction places, fishing ports, cold storage, and improved road access to production centers, further supporting the fisheries export sector.
