Indonesia’s Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, Sakti Wahyu Trenggono, held a bilateral meeting with Denmark’s Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen to explore cooperation in sustainable fisheries technology. During the meeting, Minister Trenggono presented Indonesia’s Blue Economy roadmap—a strategic framework for sustainable marine and fisheries management—and introduced Denmark to the Ministry’s Command Center, which uses satellite technology to monitor vessel movements and combat illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing.
Denmark responded by showcasing their advanced maritime drone technology, designed to enhance ocean surveillance. Minister Rasmussen praised Indonesia’s monitoring infrastructure and emphasized the potential for deeper collaboration, especially in tackling illegal fishing. As both countries celebrate 75 years of diplomatic ties, the partnership is poised to strengthen, supported by a healthy trade surplus in Indonesia’s fisheries exports to Denmark, which reached USD 6.449 million in 2024.
