Bernardino Moningka Vega, Vice Chairman for International Trade at the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KADIN), stated that Estonia has strong potential to serve as a gateway for Indonesian exports to European Union markets. With trade value between the two countries reaching USD 540 million—a 40% increase from the previous year—he emphasized the importance of tapping into non-traditional markets like Estonia. This was conveyed following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between KADIN Indonesia and Estonia's Chamber of Commerce (KTK) in Jakarta on April 22, witnessed by Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna and other dignitaries.
The MoU aims to enhance economic cooperation across three key sectors: digitalization, food and beverage, and tourism. Estonia, renowned for its digital expertise, is already collaborating with Indonesian tech companies—particularly in Bali—through joint development of tech centers. Bernardino highlighted that Indonesia’s digital market potential stands at USD 360 billion, making Estonia a valuable partner in building scalable tech models. In the food and beverage and tourism sectors, future cooperation will explore mutual export-import opportunities. Estonia's Foreign Minister reaffirmed the importance of such partnerships amid global uncertainties, stating that closer ties will ensure better futures for both nations.
