On April 16, 2025, the UN Tourism and Indonesia launched a tourism investment guide titled 'Tourism Doing Business: Investment in Indonesia' during the UN Tourism Regional Conference, held in Jakarta. This comprehensive guide, presented as a symbol of cooperation between the UN Tourism and Indonesia, encompasses meticulous research, offering a comprehensive overview of the global and national economic landscape, current investment trends and patterns, the value proposition and competitiveness of Indonesia on a global stage. The guide also delves into the legal and taxation frameworks for investors, highlighting potential investment opportunities in major destinations. Additionally, it provides strategic recommendations, economic analysis, and insights into foreign direct investment trends. Furthermore, this guide offers detailed investment opportunity maps, incentive and licensing schemes, profiles of startup enterprises, and models for business collaboration.
It also details Indonesia's policies in support of low-carbon development and sustainable tourism projects, such as the Long-Term Strategy for Low Carbon and Climate Resilience 2050 (LTS-LCCR 2050) and funding through green bonds and green sukuk. The 'Tourism Doing Business: Investing in Indonesia' guide has been designed to provide potential investors, both domestic and foreign, with guidance on how to explore investment opportunities that prioritise sustainable aspects. Five Super Priority Tourism Destinations remain the primary focus of tourism investment in Indonesia, including Borobudur, Labuan Bajo, Mandalika, Lake Toba, and Likupang. Furthermore, three key regions – Jakarta, Bali, and the Riau Islands (Batam-Bintan), along with IKN, are identified as primary areas of investment focus. The Indonesian Government is committed to the promotion of sustainable tourism practices through national policies and industry readiness initiatives.
