Indonesia's leather and leather products industry showed strong growth in 2024, with exports reaching USD 4.6 billion—up 8% from the previous year. According to Reni Yanita, Director General of Small, Medium, and Various Industries (IKMA) at the Ministry of Industry, leather footwear dominated the export value at USD 3.1 billion or 69%, followed by leather bags and similar products at USD 1.1 billion or 25.6%. Leather goods are also among the top four export commodities from Yogyakarta (DIY Province), underscoring the region's significant potential.
To support this growth, the government continues to strengthen small and medium industries (IKM) through various development programs. One such initiative is the revitalization of the Manding Leather IKM Center in Bantul, Yogyakarta, using 2024 Special Allocation Funds (DAK). The program includes building upgrades, machine and equipment procurement, HR and competitiveness training, market access expansion, and partnership development. Reni expressed appreciation to all involved and emphasized that the development of IKM centers across the country can boost the overall industrial ecosystem through local resource processing and community-based growth.
