The Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan) continues to strengthen synergy with various parties in maintaining the balance of the national poultry ecosystem, especially the commodity of chicken eggs. This year, Indonesia recorded the achievement of the third largest egg producer in the world after China and Japan, with a production potential of 6.52 million tons or equivalent to 104.17 billion eggs. With a national need of 6.22 million tons, Indonesia recorded a potential surplus of 295 thousand tons or 4.5 percent. This surplus is a strategic opportunity to expand the reach of the MBG program, strengthen the role of livestock MSMEs, and increase the distribution of eggs between regions.
The Director General of Animal Husbandry and Animal Health, Agung Suganda, emphasized that the Ministry of Agriculture continues to monitor market dynamics with a collaborative and responsive approach. The Ministry of Agriculture has issued a circular dated April 11, 2025, which strengthens supervision of the circulation of fertile and infertile eggs for consumption in accordance with the Regulation of the Minister of Agriculture (Permentan) Number 10 of 2024 in order to maintain market psychology against egg price pressures. In addition, the Ministry of Agriculture also encourages intervention from feed companies (feedmills) to help MSME farmers through various support schemes. Absorption was also proposed to be included in the Government Food Reserve (CPP) program by the National Food Agency, both for MBG and handling stunting. With 95 percent of national egg production coming from independent farmers, the Ministry of Agriculture ensures that siding with people's livestock remains a priority.
