On 21 April 2025, the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Bahlil Lahadalia, and the Danish Foreign Minister, Lars Løkke Rasmussen, signed the Third Protocol to Amend the Memorandum of Understanding Concerning Renewable and Clean Energy and Energy Conservation. This partnership marks a decade of continuous collaboration since 2015 in renewable energy and energy efficiency, with the potential to unlock new opportunities for green technology development ahead. The protocol is intended to extend the validity of the previous Memorandum of Understanding, thereby enabling the expansion of activities under the Indonesia-Denmark Energy Partnership Programme (INDODEPP). Denmark is a country with long-standing expertise in the management of new and renewable energy sources, particularly wind technology. Denmark also has technology for energy efficiency.
Rasmussen stated that this cooperation paves the way for a comprehensive strategic partnership and sets an example of how increasing renewable energy can go hand in hand with strengthening energy independence and security. In addition to the signing of the Third Protocol to Amend the MoU between the Minister of ESDM and the Danish Minister of Foreign Affairs, three MoUs were signed between private businesses from both countries. These represent a significant step towards Indonesia's energy transition and strengthen Denmark's position in the green transition. The three MoUs include the MoU between PLN Indonesia Power and Vestas on Joint Study Cooperation to Explore Potential Development Opportunities in Meeting Green Electricity Demand in Indonesia, the MoU between PLN Nusantara Power and Vestas on Joint Study Cooperation to Explore Potential Development of Renewable Energy Power Plant Projects in Indonesia, and the MoU between PLN Indonesia Power and Saltfoss Energy on Nuclear Development Cooperation in Indonesia.
