Bank BRI Empowers Batik Entrepreneurs to Enter the Global Market

Batik Tulis Soedjono, a micro, small and medium enterprise (UMKM) that received support from Bank BRI Sugio Unit in Lamongan, commenced operations in 2019. Batik Tulis Soedjono was established with a focus on custom-written batik, meticulously crafted to meet the unique requirements of each customer. This concept ensures exclusivity, with each motif being crafted individually and without duplication. It showcases the potential of batik to be modern, versatile, and economical, with customised batik pieces starting from IDR 250 thousand each. After a five-year operation, Batik Tulis Soedjono has expanded its workforce to include nine full-time employees and five part-time tailors, all of whom are from the local community.

As a business supported by BRI, Batik Tulis Soedjono has received assistance in developing its business, including access to training programmes, marketing strategies, connections with quality tailors from other businesses supported by BRI, and the opportunity to reach a wider market, including international markets. In 2022, the company successfully fulfilled a special order from Singapore featuring the distinctive Lamongan motif, Daliwangun, which combines the local Dali bird with the Wangun tree, a symbol representing the region's unique identity. This order demonstrates the competitive nature of Lamongan batik within global markets. Furthermore, requests from a number of major Indonesian cities, including Medan, Samarinda, Batam and Ternate, are continuing to be received. The support programme from Bank BRI is expected to encourage the expansion of employment through the empowerment of UMKM, to open up access to the global market and improve the welfare of the community.
