The Indonesian government is taking a strategic step to bolster the national aviation sector through the development of a world-class Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) hub and Aerospace Park at Kertajati International Airport in West Java. Announced by Minister of Transportation Dudy Purwagandhi during the signing of a cooperation agreement between PT GMF AeroAsia, PT BIJB, and Bappenas, the initiative aims to reduce reliance on overseas aircraft maintenance—currently at 46%—and enhance industry efficiency. The 84.2-hectare Kertajati Aircraft Maintenance Center, part of the broader 3,480-hectare Kertajati Aerocity, is expected to serve as a key driver for a more competitive and self-reliant aviation industry.
Backed by strong inter-agency collaboration, including support from Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure AHY and Bappenas Head Rachmat Pambudy, the project is envisioned to transform Kertajati into a global aerospace hub. It will integrate terminals, commercial zones, and an e-commerce hub, while boosting job creation and sustainable economic growth. The MoU outlines master planning, regulatory alignment, and policy support to attract investment and position Kertajati as a magnet for innovation and aviation excellence in Indonesia.
