Indonesia’s Coconut Exports Soar in Early 2025: China Leads as Top Buyer

Indonesia’s coconut export industry is off to a strong start in 2025, showing a remarkable surge that brings optimism to the agricultural sector. According to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), exports of whole coconuts from January to February reached an impressive IDR 517 billion, with a shipment volume of 71,077 tons. China emerged as the largest buyer, importing over 68,000 tons in just two months. The growing demand from China, along with strong interest from neighboring countries like Vietnam, Thailand, and Malaysia, is significantly boosting Indonesia’s coconut export performance.

Compared to the previous month, coconut exports rose by a notable 29.84%, marking a steady upward trend that began in 2023 and gained momentum throughout 2024. Last year, Indonesia exported a total of 431,915 tons of coconuts—surpassing even the 2021 figures. These achievements highlight the growing recognition of Indonesian coconuts for their quality and competitiveness in Asian markets. This positive trend not only benefits national trade but also brings renewed hope for local coconut farmers, with expectations of increased income and regional economic growth. Continued government support through farmer-friendly policies, improved production standards, and expanded market access is key to sustaining this momentum. If this trajectory continues, Indonesia is well-positioned to strengthen its role as a leading player in the global coconut trade.
