Gapki: Exports of CPO and Its Derivatives Rose Three Percent, Reaching 2.76 Million Tons

The Indonesian Palm Oil Association (Gapki) noted that exports of crude palm oil (CPO) and its derivatives grew 3 percent to 2.76 million tons in September 2020, from the previous month (mom) 2.68 million tons in August 2020. Gapki Executive Director Mukti Sardjono explained that the growth in export volume was triggered by an increase in the number of exports to a number of countries, including China, Brazil, Malaysia, Russia and Africa. "Exports to China in September were 64,000 tons, up from 618,000 tons in August," Mukti said in a statement in Jakarta, Thursday.

Mukti detailed that exports to Brazil rose by 44,000 tons, to Malaysia by 39,000 tons, to Russia by 37,000 tons. Meanwhile, the increase in exports to Africa reached 39,000 tons. Although most African countries saw a decline in exports, he said, there was a high increase with the goal of Kenya at 61,000 tons and South Africa at 33,000 tons. The decline in exports also occurred to the European Union and Pakistan. Meanwhile, exports to India, he continued, the export volume was the same as in August, namely 351,000 tons.

Based on the product, CPO exports in September were recorded at 518,000 tonnes (up 8,000 tonnes), processed CPO 1.76 million tonnes (up 47,000 tonnes), lauric (PKO and PKO processing) of 159,000 tonnes (up 35,000 tonnes), biodiesel 7,000 tonnes, and oleochemicals of 313,000 tonnes (down 18,000 tonnes). Meanwhile, the export value of palm oil products and their derivatives in September reached 1.87 billion US dollars, an increase of 10 percent compared to the export value in August of 1.69 billion US dollars. On a year-on-year basis (yoy) until September, the export value of palm oil products in 2020 reached US $ 15.5 billion or greater than the export value in 2019 of US $ 14.46 billion.
