Yogyakarta's development strategy is entering a new chapter as it transitions from the Nawacita to the Asta Cita framework, with a focus on adaptive and sustainable growth. In the 2026 Regional Development Planning Forum (Musrenbang RKPD), Governor Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X emphasized strengthening Yogyakarta’s core sectors—tourism, agriculture, and manufacturing—supported by broader adoption of digital technologies. This dual approach aims to drive inclusive economic growth and improve efficiency across sectors. The forum also served as a collaborative platform for national and regional stakeholders to align development priorities, particularly in tackling poverty and regional disparities.
Sri Sultan highlighted that despite poverty levels in Yogyakarta remaining slightly above the national average, efforts to reduce it have shown consistent success. Since 2014, poverty has decreased by 4.17%, with extreme poverty dropping to just 0.85% as of March 2024—making Yogyakarta the second-fastest province in Java to reduce poverty. He also stressed the importance of public involvement in development to foster a sense of ownership and long-term impact. The forum concluded with awards recognizing innovation in regional development, including the “PAKU” chili program from Kulon Progo. The City of Yogyakarta received top honors, followed by Bantul and Kulon Progo. Mayor Hasto Wardoyo expressed gratitude and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to efficient budget management and human capital development in line with national goals.
