The Atsiri Research Center (ARC) at Universitas Syiah Kuala (USK) Banda Aceh, through its business arm PT U Green Aromatics International, has successfully exported one ton of Aceh patchouli oil to France. This marks their 30th shipment to the country since 2018, with a total export value of IDR 1.5 billion. Unlike previous exports via Belawan Port in North Sumatra, this shipment was delivered directly from Sultan Iskandar Muda Airport in Aceh, thanks to a collaboration with Garuda Indonesia.
The exported oil, purchased at IDR 1.2 million per kilogram, was sourced from farmers across Aceh, including regions like Aceh Besar, Gayo Lues, and Aceh Selatan. The French company Nat’ Green remains a key buyer, with ongoing demand ranging from two to five tons per month—though current supply struggles to meet this due to limited local production. ARC hopes to improve capacity moving forward. USK Rector Prof. Marwan expressed gratitude to all parties involved, particularly Garuda Indonesia and Aceh Customs, for enabling a smoother export process directly from Aceh. He also envisions future support for exporting value-added products like perfumes made by USK-supported SMEs. This development highlights growing international interest in Aceh’s patchouli oil and represents a positive step toward strengthening local economic empowerment and global trade connections.
