The West Bandung Regency Government (KBB) is taking steps to develop the southern region of the regency as a new tourism destination in an effort to promote balanced regional economic growth. Currently, most tourism activity is concentrated in Lembang, leading to congestion and economic disparity across districts. According to Regent Jeje Richie Ismail, untapped areas such as Cililin, Sindangkerta, Gununghalu, and Rongga offer rich tourism potential, including natural beauty, cultural heritage, and local traditions that can attract both domestic and international visitors.
To ensure sustainable development, the government plans to prioritize infrastructure improvements in the southern area, especially in regions with available land owned by state-owned plantation company PTPN. Once infrastructure is upgraded, the administration will begin courting investors to help build tourism facilities and services. Jeje emphasized the importance of expanding beyond Lembang to boost local livelihoods and increase regional revenue (PAD). He also noted the growing appeal of Bandung Barat as a tourism destination, with 189,850 visitors recorded during the 2025 Eid holiday period, a 10% increase over the previous year. With its strategic location and growing transport connectivity—including access to the Whoosh high-speed rail—Bandung Barat is positioning itself as a prime area for tourism investment and sustainable regional development.
