The Ministry of Industry Partners with Australia to Produce Competent Digital Furniture Industry Human Resources

The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) is intensifying efforts to improve the performance of the domestic furniture industry, aiming to boost its contribution to national GDP and expand export markets. A key strategy is to ensure the availability of skilled and competent human resources (HR) for the sector. Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita emphasized that skilled HR is crucial for driving the industry's success, highlighting the role of the Kendal Furniture and Wood Processing Polytechnic (Polifurneka), which is actively producing competent professionals in the sector. Kemenperin also reported positive growth in the national furniture industry, contributing 51.81% to the GDP of the non-oil and gas processing industry and achieving a 0.7% increase in furniture exports in 2024 compared to the previous year. To further enhance industry performance, Kemenperin, through the Industrial Human Resources Development Agency (BPSDMI), is fostering collaborations with various stakeholders, including industrial companies, educational institutions, and international partners. Recently, Polifurneka signed a Memorandum of Understanding with CAD+T Australasia Pty/Ltd and Pradita University to improve HR skills in the furniture sector. This partnership will involve curriculum development based on Industry 4.0, faculty training, and software integration to support modern furniture design and manufacturing techniques. The collaboration is expected to bridge the gap between education and the industry, preparing HR for future challenges in the global market.
