Indonesia’s Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) is setting an ambitious target for 2025 by aiming to export UMKM (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises) products to 33 countries, with a projected export value of USD 18.84 billion (approximately IDR 306 trillion). This target represents a 12.5% increase from the previous year. Deputy Minister of Trade Dyah Roro Esti Widya Putri emphasized that achieving this goal requires collaboration across government agencies, state-owned enterprises (BUMN), and the private sector. With UMKM contributing around 61% to Indonesia’s GDP, empowering them to compete globally is a national priority.
The Ministry is focusing on three strategic pillars: protecting the domestic market, expanding international trade access, and enabling UMKM to confidently and capably export. The acronym “BISA” stands for Bravery, Innovation, and Adaptability, reflecting the mindset Kemendag wants to foster among small businesses. To support these efforts, Indonesia’s 33 overseas trade offices will play a critical role in identifying export opportunities and providing market insights. Digital platforms such as InaExport and PaDi UMKM are also being enhanced to connect local businesses directly with global buyers. Monthly business matching events and sustained promotion campaigns are expected to strengthen Indonesia’s presence in international markets. With coordinated efforts and the right tools, Kemendag is optimistic that more Indonesian UMKM will thrive on the global stage, contributing to both national exports and economic resilience.
