South Sulawesi's Exports Reach IDR 4.5 Trillion in Early 2025
South Sulawesi recorded an export value of USD 267.61 million (approximately IDR 4.5 trillion) for the period of January–February 2025, according to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS). February alone saw exports worth USD 143.47 million, marking a 15.57% increase from January and a 5.87% rise compared to the same month in 2024. Key export commodities included nickel, iron and steel, cocoa, oilseeds, and seafood. Nickel led the list with USD 82.34 million, accounting for over 57% of total exports. Exports of cocoa and seafood saw significant monthly growth, rising by 61.17% and 89.14%, respectively.
South Sulawesi’s main export destinations were Japan, China, Taiwan, Vietnam, and South Korea. Japan ranked first with USD 84.96 million or 59.22% of total exports, followed by China at USD 51.13 million. While exports to Japan, Vietnam, and South Korea increased notably, shipments to China and Taiwan saw minor declines. On the import side, the province recorded USD 67.04 million in February, up 34.95% from January. Despite strong February performance, the cumulative export value for January–February 2025 was 16.89% lower than the same period in 2024, mainly due to a decline in nickel and oilseed exports. Still, the surge in newer export categories and expanding trade with key Asian partners demonstrates South Sulawesi’s evolving role in Indonesia’s international trade landscape.
