Ministry of Trade Strengthens Swiftlet Nest Exports to China

Indonesia is currently the world's largest producer of edible bird’s nests, with China as its primary export market. In 2024, Indonesia exported bird’s nests worth USD 428 million globally, with nearly 70%—valued at USD 428.79 million—going to China, which imported a total of USD 634.95 million in bird’s nests that year. Over the past five years (2020–2024), Indonesia’s bird’s nest exports to China have shown a positive growth trend of 3.75%. Other major export destinations include Hong Kong (USD 62.35 million), Vietnam (USD 22.01 million), Singapore (USD 17.81 million), the United States (USD 14.71 million), and Taiwan (USD 7.75 million).

The Indonesia-China Bird’s Nest Forum serves as a platform to share market updates and push for aligned regulations. According to Fajarini Puntodewi, Director General of National Export Development at the Ministry of Trade, this forum strengthens bilateral ties and export policies. Chairman of CAWA, Ma Zengjun, also emphasized the forum’s role in fostering mutual understanding and future cooperation. During the event, key stakeholders discussed promoting Indonesian bird’s nest standards—focusing on food safety and product quality—to boost international competitiveness. The 2025 summit included 30 Indonesian businesses, 30 CAWA members from China, and 5 Indonesian industry associations, concluding with business matchmaking sessions.
