The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) is expanding Indonesia’s fishery export market to Korea by strengthening trade cooperation and aligning with international standards to support national economic growth. Head of the Agency for Quality Control and Supervision of Marine and Fishery Products, Ishartini, announced that Indonesia has successfully secured approval from Korea’s National Fishery Products Quality Management Service (NFQS) to increase the number of fish processing units (UPI) eligible to export to Korea. This achievement results from ongoing negotiations and strong bilateral relations, supported by a cooperation agreement ensuring quality and hygiene standards for fishery trade between the two nations.
Following a joint inspection in August 2024, Korea approved 11 additional Indonesian companies for export, bringing the total number of approved units to 660. These companies can begin exporting as of April 2, 2025. Ishartini emphasized that this milestone reinforces KKP’s role in ensuring robust, consistent, and internationally recognized quality assurance systems across the supply chain. The growing number of certified exporters not only strengthens Indonesia’s position in global markets but also contributes to sustainable fisheries and public health. Minister Sakti Wahyu Trenggono further stressed the importance of end-to-end quality control to maintain fish resources that are healthy, high-quality, and free from microplastics.
